Student Visa Process

  1. Apply to the school: Apply to a school approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Once accepted, you will receive a Form I-20 from the institution's international student office.

  2. Pay the SEVIS fee: Pay the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee.

  3. Complete the Visa application: Fill out the online visa application, Form DS-160.

  4. Schedule an interview: Schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country. It is important to do this as early as possible.

  5. Prepare for your interview: Gather required documentation such as your passport, visa application confirmation page, application fee payment receipt, photo, Form I-20, and any other documents as advised by your embassy or consulate.

  6. Attend your Visa interview: A consular officer will interview you to determine whether you are qualified to receive a student visa. You should establish that you meet the requirements under U.S. law to receive a visa.

  7. After your visa is issued: If your visa is issued, you may need to pay a visa issuance fee. You should check whether this applies to your nationality.

  8. Arriving in the U.S.: When you arrive in the U.S., you must arrive no later than the date specified in your visa.
